Method
- Step 1: Begin by cutting your loaf of bread into cubes, about 1-2 inches in size. Place the bread cubes into a greased 9x13 inch baking dish, ensuring they are evenly distributed.
- Step 2: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
- Step 3: Pour the custard mixture evenly over the bread cubes. Use a spatula or a spoon to gently press down the bread, ensuring all pieces are soaked in the custard.
- Step 4: Drizzle 1/2 cup of maple syrup over the top of the mixture. If using nuts, sprinkle them over the top as well.
- Step 5: Cover the baking dish tightly with plastic wrap and place it in the refrigerator overnight.
- Step 6: The next morning, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Remove the plastic wrap and let it sit at room temperature for about 15 minutes before baking.
- Step 7: Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until golden brown and set in the center. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
Notes
Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven or microwave before serving.
