- Place potatoes in a large pot and cover with cold water. Bring to a boil over high heat.
- Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until potatoes are easily pierced with a fork.
- Drain the potatoes thoroughly in a colander.
- Return potatoes to the pot. Using a potato masher or electric mixer, mash until smooth. If using a mixer, start on low and gradually increase to medium speed.
- Add milk and butter; stir until butter is melted and the mixture is creamy and smooth.
- Stir in salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder (if using). Taste and adjust seasonings as needed. Add more milk if necessary to reach desired consistency.
- Serve immediately. Enjoy!
Notes
For extra creamy mashed potatoes, use warm milk. You can also add other herbs and spices such as chives, rosemary, or thyme.
