Method
- Step 1: Grease the Baking Dish: Start by greasing a 9x13 inch baking dish with non-stick cooking spray or butter.
- Step 2: Prepare the Bread: Cut the loaf of French bread into bite-sized cubes. Place the bread cubes in the prepared baking dish, spreading them out evenly.
- Step 3: Make the Egg Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and salt until smooth.
- Step 4: Combine the Bread and Egg Mixture: Pour the egg mixture evenly over the bread cubes, ensuring all pieces are well-coated. Gently press down on the bread with a spatula.
- Step 5: Add Butter: Drizzle the melted butter over the top of the casserole.
- Step 6: Refrigerate Overnight: Cover the baking dish tightly with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight.
- Step 7: Preheat the Oven: The next morning, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Step 8: Bake the Casserole: Remove the plastic wrap and bake for 45-55 minutes, or until golden brown and the center is set.
- Step 9: Serve Warm: Let the casserole cool for a few minutes before slicing into squares. Serve warm with maple syrup.
Notes
For best results, use day-old bread. Feel free to add fresh fruits or nuts before serving.
