Ingredients

For the Muffins
  • 1.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp ground ginger
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 0.5 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 0.25 tsp ground cloves
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 0.75 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 0.75 cup molasses
  • 0.5 cup buttermilk
For the Maple Glaze
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp maple syrup
  • 2 tbsp milk

Equipment

  • Muffin tin (12-cup)
  • Medium Mixing Bowl
  • Large Mixing Bowl
  • Whisk
  • Electric Mixer
  • Rubber Spatula
  • Measuring Cups and Spoons
  • Cooling Rack

Method

  1. Step 1: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). This ensures that your muffins bake evenly and rise to perfection.
  2. Step 2: Line a muffin tin with paper liners or grease it with cooking spray.
  3. Step 3: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves.
  4. Step 4: In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter and brown sugar together until the mixture is light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the molasses until well combined.
  5. Step 5: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with the buttermilk. Mix until just combined.
  6. Step 6: Divide the batter evenly among the prepared muffin cups, filling each about two-thirds full.
  7. Step 7: Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of a muffin comes out clean.
  8. Step 8: Once baked, allow the muffins to cool in the pan for about 5 minutes. Transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  9. Step 9: While the muffins are cooling, prepare the glaze by whisking together the powdered sugar, maple syrup, and milk until smooth.
  10. Step 10: Once the muffins are completely cool, drizzle the maple glaze over the top of each muffin.

Notes

Store the muffins in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. For longer storage, freeze them in a freezer-safe bag for up to 3 months.
