  • 2 lbs Russet potatoes peeled and quartered
  • 1/2 cup Milk whole milk recommended
  • 1/4 cup Unsalted butter
  • 6 Garlic cloves minced
  • 1 teaspoon Salt or to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon Black pepper or to taste
  • 1/4 cup Sour cream (optional) for extra creaminess
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh chives (optional) chopped, for garnish

  • Potato masher or electric mixer

Method
 

Instructions
  1. Place potatoes in a large pot, cover with cold water, and add salt. Bring to a boil over high heat.
  2. Reduce heat and simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until easily pierced with a fork.
  3. Drain potatoes thoroughly in a colander and return them to the pot.
  4. Mash potatoes using a potato masher or electric mixer until mostly smooth. Leave some chunks for a rustic texture if desired.
  5. Add milk, butter, and optional sour cream. Stir until butter is melted and mixture is creamy.
  6. Stir in minced garlic, salt, and pepper. Taste and adjust seasonings as needed.
  7. Garnish with fresh chives (optional) and serve immediately.

Notes

For extra flavor, roast the garlic cloves before mincing. You can also add other herbs like rosemary or thyme.
