- Place potatoes in a large pot, cover with cold water, and add salt. Bring to a boil over high heat.
- Reduce heat and simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until easily pierced with a fork.
- Drain potatoes thoroughly in a colander and return them to the pot.
- Mash potatoes using a potato masher or electric mixer until mostly smooth. Leave some chunks for a rustic texture if desired.
- Add milk, butter, and optional sour cream. Stir until butter is melted and mixture is creamy.
- Stir in minced garlic, salt, and pepper. Taste and adjust seasonings as needed.
- Garnish with fresh chives (optional) and serve immediately.
Notes
For extra flavor, roast the garlic cloves before mincing. You can also add other herbs like rosemary or thyme.
