Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 2 cups (4 sticks) Unsalted Butter softened
  • 1.5 cups Granulated Sugar
  • 1.5 cups Packed Light Brown Sugar
  • 4 Large Eggs
  • 2 teaspoons Pure Vanilla Extract
  • 4 cups All-Purpose Flour
  • 2 teaspoons Baking Soda
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 2 cups Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips
  • 0.5 cup Granulated Sugar (for topping, optional)
  • 2 drops Red Food Coloring (optional) for pink sugar

Equipment

  • Mixing bowls (large and medium)
  • Electric Mixer
  • Baking Sheets
  • Parchment paper
  • Cookie Scoop (optional)

Method

Instructions
  1. If making pink sugar, combine granulated sugar and red food coloring in a small bowl. Mix until evenly colored. Set aside.
  2. Cream together butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar in a large bowl until light and fluffy (use an electric mixer).
  3. Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.
  6. Stir in chocolate chips. If using pink sugar, scoop cookie dough onto prepared baking sheets, leaving space between cookies. Sprinkle with pink sugar.
  7. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until edges are golden brown.
  8. Let cookies cool on baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For extra-thick cookies, chill the dough for at least 30 minutes before baking. You can also use different types of chocolate chips or add nuts to the dough.
